How to cook pasta
There are endless pasta recipes, but the first thing to do when cooking it is to boil the pasta correctly. It is not at all complicated but it is necessary to know the order of the steps to follow to get a rich and ready pasta. Therefore, in aComo we want to explain in detail how to boil pasta so that you have no doubts and you can prepare some delicious pasta dishes.
You will need:
Steps to follow:
The first step to boil pasta will be to put on the fire a saucepan with plenty of water, we recommend that it be large enough because the pasta when cooking always increases in size. It is also recommended to add one liter of water per 100 grams of pasta.
It will also be necessary to add to the water to boil pasta a splash of olive oil or a little butter to avoid that later the pasta sticks between it. And, optionally, you can also add a bay leaf to give it a touch of flavor.
The moment the water boils, you must add a pinch of salt; it is important not to pour it first, since salt water takes longer to cook. We also recommend that you keep the water covered so that it starts to boil earlier.
Now it’s time to add the pasta you want to boil: spaghetti, macaroni, spirals, noodles, etc. In the case of long pasta, which does not seem to fit in the pan, you can choose to split them in half once raw, although it will not be necessary because once wet in boiling water you can push them to bend.
When adding the paste, the water will have stopped boiling but you will have to wait for it to start the boil again and stir the paste so that it does not stick, always using a wooden and non-metallic utensil. The cooking time of each type of pasta is different, although most of them indicate a recommended cooking time in its packaging.
In the case of spaghetti, an infallible trick to know when the pasta is at its point, al dente, is to take a spaghetti out of the water and throw it against a wall of tiles or tiles, very common in kitchens. If it is stuck, it will be sufficiently boiled, while if it falls, we will have to leave it longer.
Once the pasta is boiled – you can try it to check it and be completely sure – you must drain it in the sink with the help of a drainer or strainer. Some choose to pass it under the cold water tap, although this way it loses the starch characteristic of pasta, so it is only recommended to prepare cold dishes such as pasta salad, but not to mix it with sauces.
